Uniforms
Each Scout in the troop should own
1. A complete khaki field uniform shirt with the proper insignia and patches. (at minimum: Council Strip, Troop number, Arrow of Light patch (if earned), rank patch (if earned), green shoulder loops)
2. At least one Troop 1 tee shirt.
3. A personalized Troop 1 ball cap.
4. A troop neckerchief.
A merit badge sash (once Scouts start earning merit badges) optional
The khaki field uniform shirt and green merit badge sash can be purchased at the National Scout Shop at the Council office on Washington Ave. Ext. in Albany or online at scoutstuff.org. Don't buy the small sash, the bigger one looks huge, but your Scout WILL outgrow the small one before you know it. The troop does not ask parents to purchase official scout pants, although you may if you wish.
Every spring the troop has an apparel sale that includes tee shirts, the troop ball cap as well as several other items. Items that are personalized for Scouts will have their first name and the first initial of their last name.
A neckerchief and slide will be provided to every scout who joins the troop, additional neckerchiefs and slides can be purchased at the Scout Shop.
What should be worn, when?
The field uniform shirt should be worn to all troop meetings. A Scout may wear specialty Scout neckwear such as BOLO ties, Camporee or commemorative neckerchiefs to troop meetings, other Scout hats are also approved to be worn during troop meetings. The uniform shirt is to be worn tucked in and the scout should be neat in appearance. Athletic pants and shorts are discouraged.
For outings such as trips, parades and other public events (where a Scout should stay clean) the field uniform, with the official neckerchief and ball cap should be worn.
For formal events such as Boards of Review, Courts of Honor, crossovers and other ceremonies, the merit badge sash is recommended but not required.
The troop tee shirt should be worn when doing troop service projects such as raking leaves, spreading mulch, and other "dirty" work.
At summer camp the field uniform is required for dinner but neckerchiefs are not. Tee shirts will be worn at other times of the day and while scout shirts are preferred they are not required.
* Complete branded BSA attire is required for Scouts attending National Scouting events such as NYLT or Jamboree including pants/shorts, belt, and socks.
